Steel braided hoses Motorcycle
Do I need additional parts for assembly?
No, our motorcycle steel braided hoses kits contain all the parts required for trouble-free installation. No additional purchase necessary!
Can the connections be twisted?
Yes, thanks to the twist system, the connections of our steel flex brake lines can be easily rotated 360 degrees. This makes installation flexible and simple.
You can find more information on installation in our installation instructions.
Do I need new banjo bolts to fit the steel hoses?
No, you can simply continue to use the original screws. However, if you are looking for a color upgrade, we offer you the option of ordering matching banjo bolts in the desired quantity directly with your purchase. Simple and stylish at the same time!
Are there additional costs due to color variations of the sheathing and connections?
There are no additional costs for the color selection of the screw fittings – except for stainless steel and chrome-plated versions. However, if a colored plastic coating is required, we charge a small surcharge.
What is meant by the “alternative” installation of steel hoses?
Alternative” routing means that the steel braided hoses are routed differently to the original routing. For examples and installation variants, see the “Installation types” section in the product description.
Which brake fluid should I use for my motorcycle?
It is important to use the brake fluid specified in the vehicle manual or recommended by the manufacturer. In most vehicles, the required type is also indicated on the cap of the expansion reservoir.
How do I bleed my brake system?
The brake system should always be bled in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, especially for vehicles with ABS.
Do sealing washers have to be ordered separately?
No, the matching sealing washers are already included in the scope of delivery of the motorcycle steel braided kit.
Where are lens seals (UFO) used?
The lens seals serve as a connecting element between the original lines and the steel pipes of your vehicle and our probrake distributor. Their practical design allows them to be fitted on both sides.
Does a steel braided hose have to be entered in the vehicle documents?
If your steel braided hose is supplied with a general operating permit (ABE), registration is not required.
For lines that are supplied with an expert opinion – as is the case with custom-made steel braided hose – you must present your vehicle for inspection after installation and have the lines registered.
All relevant certifications can be found in the product details.
Clutch hoses are generally exempt from registration.
Please note that this information applies to Germany and that there may be different regulations in other countries.
Can I order customized cable lengths?
With our measurement service, it is no problem to lengthen or shorten the lines to the handlebars according to your requirements. With our steel braided configurator, you can configure individual lines exactly as you want them.
How many hoses does a complete steel braided kit contain?
The number of hoses in a kit depends on your motorcycle model and the selected installation method. Details on the number of cables can be found in the article description of the respective kit.
What does “SB” installation mean for steel braided hoses?
“SB” refers to the conversion to a superbike handlebar or a high-rise handlebar. With this type of installation, the cables leading to the handlebars are extended accordingly.
Which banjo bolts can I use for installation?
Our banjo bolts are precision CNC-milled and are always supplied with the appropriate sealing rings. As the thread pitches of the brake systems on motorcycles can vary, here is a brief overview:
- European motorcycles (e.g. Aprilia, Bimota, BMW, Cagiva, Ducati, Moto Guzzi) usually use metric threads such as M10 x 1.00.
- Until 2004, American motorcycles (e.g. Harley Davidson) mainly used inch threads such as 3/8“ UNF for the brake calliper and 7/16” UNF for the handbrake cylinder. After 2004 you will find a mixture of M10 x 1.00 and M12 x 1.5, with Brembo/HD brake calipers often M10 x 1.00.
- Honda mainly uses M10 x 1.25, also with Brembo brake calipers ex works (exception: CB 500 with Brembo, M10 x 1.00).
- Kawasaki and Suzuki (from 1994) use M10 x 1.25, Suzuki until 1994 M10 x 1.00. From 2002 Suzuki uses M10 x 1.25 throughout.
- Triumph used UNF 3/8 x 24 until 1980, then M10 x 1.25.
For Yamaha and further details on the thread types, see the product descriptions of our vehicle classifications.
